Toyota Aygo x-play, test (exterior, interior and trunk design)
After analysing in the first part the dynamic behaviour of the small Toyota Aygo that has been with us these days, it is time to hit the brakes. We want to break down everything related to its design, both exterior and interior, discovering the practical capabilities of the small Japanese urban car.
After analyzing in the first part the dynamic behavior of the little Toyota Aygo that has been with us these days, it is time to hit the brakes.
We want to break down everything related to your design, both exterior and interior, discovering the practical capabilities of the small Japanese urban car.
Exterior design
The exterior design of the Toyota Aygo, in this second generation, is much more attractive than in its first editionWe have already mentioned that it is built, once again, in collaboration with the PSA automotive group, so the general lines are very similar to the Peugeot and Citroën models.
However, each brand has wanted to give its model its personal touch, and in the Aygo this is something that is quickly noticeable. The design is “very Japanese”, with extremely short overhangs, pointed lines and very sharp angles., much more than in the first generation, which was guilty of being “too rounded.”
El front It is one of the key parts to understand the design of the new Aygo. It adopts the “X-Grille”, an “X” shaped moulding that has begun to become a family symbol within Toyota vehicles. In the Aygo, as in other models of the brand, it is painted in a different color than the rest of the body. It is also possible to choose different colors for this and other moldings. Our unit, in particular, had it painted white.
The headlights are now much longer, extending between the bonnet and the fender. It has a thin LED strip that acts as a position light, a halogen bulb for the indicator and a large projector for the low and high beam lights, which by the way, illuminates in an extraordinary way. The daytime running lights continue to appear in the form of an LED strip, although they are now located on the side of the X, near the fog lights.
The side view has also been modified, with a much more attractive rising waistline than before.. The glass surface has been reduced, although visibility has not been compromised. The rear windows still have a compass-type opening, a solution that has become fashionable again in recent years. The alloy wheels, of simple design, are 15 inches, and have a very attractive brushed and white finish. The rearview mirrors are of sufficient size and offer an appropriate field of vision.
The rear has changed substantially, as the taillights are now elongated and located between the tailgate, which is still made of glass, as in the first generation. It also retains the curious connector cable for the heated rear window, in the form of a telephone cable. The bumper also has a large white moulding, housing the license plate, which has been lowered in position.
Interior Design
The interior of the first generation Aygo was possibly the most criticisable part of the car, with a very strange design and somewhat basic qualities. In this second generation, a great effort has been made to improve this aspect, and it shows. To start with, the dashboard has a more attractive, more youthful design.
The instrumentation remains anchored to the steering column, moving in a supportive manner. The console houses the entertainment system – a large touch screen – and the air conditioning controls in a more orderly and logical manner than before. We also find the USB and AUX sockets close at hand, as well as a very useful 12 V socket. There are several storage spaces which are, frankly, appreciated, especially considering that the glove compartment is not very large.
The plastics used are, in their entirety, hard, although thanks to some good adjustments and the possibility of adding very colorful moldings, the feeling of quality is quite good. The steering wheel is covered in leather and feels very pleasant to the touch. It contains controls for operating the audio system, which are not illuminated at night. The interior lighting is clearly too poor, with a single bulb with a very limited light output.
The seats still have integrated headrests, although they have a more elaborate design that gives them a little more grip (not much more). The two-tone upholstery is of good quality.
Trunk, practicality
The small Toyota has an interior space in line with its segment. The occupants of the front seats will have no problems, whether in height, width or longitudinal space. The rear seats are somewhat narrower, although sufficient to accommodate two adults with some comfort. Headroom is notable, but legroom is not as limited.
As a good small urban vehicle, the Aygo has a boot with a fairly limited capacity. However, it has improved somewhat compared to its predecessor, and is sufficient for two or three shopping bags or a small suitcase.
In addition, It is possible to fold the rear seat backrests, which although they do not fold completely, substantially expand the cargo space.
