Lindsay Lohan’s Netflix Movie ‘Our Little Secret’ Features a Big, Modern Farmhouse in Atlanta

‘Tis the season for a new Lindsay Lohan-led Christmas movie! After starring in Falling for Christmas, which was filmed at a ski resort in Utah, the actress is giving us another holiday rom-com in which to indulge, titled Our Little Secret. This time, the Netflix movie—which also stars Kristin Chenoweth and Pretty Little Liars alum Ian Harding—is set in the Atlanta metro area. It follows two exes, Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Harding), who end up spending Christmas together because their current partners turn out to be siblings. They all stay at the siblings’ childhood home run by Morgan family matriarch Erica (Chenoweth). That modern farmhouse, along with a few other homes, are deeply interwoven into the storyline. Production designer Ryan Sbaratta has shared all the details.

Where Was Our Little Secret Filmed?

The Atlanta metro area, which is a go-to for TV and film production, is where Our Little Secret is both set and where it filmed. While the grand exterior of the Morgan family’s residence is a house in the Buckhead/Chastain area of Atlanta, no filming actually took place inside of it. Instead, the interiors were built on a soundstage where the layout was very different from the real home’s arrangement. For the first-floor set, “the open space with limited privacy was designed to exacerbate the troubles of our two main two characters who are trying to keep their secret amidst a days-long family gathering,” Sbaratta tells House Beautiful.

When dreaming up the Morgan residence, the goal was to make it an extension of Erica’s character and a direct contrast to Avery’s personality—inside and out. “It has a presentational quality to it—everything curated, nothing out of place,” Sbaratta explains. “We wanted to make sure that the house—and therefore Erica—did not feel stuffy, or feel like old money, but rather modern, upscale, fashionable, and welcoming, even if still intimidating to someone like Avery wanting to impress the host.”

Set decorator Andrea Doyle, Sbaratta, and their team leaned into modern farmhouse furniture and decor for the interiors. “The exterior decor is classic white christmas lights, professionally installed of course, outlining the large house and extending across the landscaping on the expansive grounds, and accented by natural green garlands and wreaths with traditional red bows,” says Sbaratta. Those holiday touches carry throughout the interior “all the way down to the real Fraser fir we drove to get from North Carolina,” the designer adds.

The team did build a replica of the front door and patio. “So as characters meet at the front door, we could film into the house on the stage or film into the yard at the house location,” says Sbaratta.

While the Morgan family home is beautiful, Sbaratta notes “it lacks a sense of whimsy seen in Avery’s childhood home.” Avery’s childhood home, which holds bittersweet memories, is depicted by a house in Atlanta’s Decatur neighborhood. The exterior of Logan’s childhood home is portrayed by a house there as well, and the interiors for both were built onstage. Avery’s Atlanta apartment, which is briefly shown, is also a set made believable by a large custom backdrop of the Atlanta skyline.

While the movie doesn’t take place in a luxe winter setting or Irish castle, like Lohan’s previous films, it offers viewers a cozy escape from reality—which can only be made better if you have the right soft blankets and flickering candles nearby.
