Designers reveal the top 10 pattern trends for 2025
Decorating with the latest pattern trends is one of the best ways to add design flair to your home. And while you may think of patterns as being exclusive to maximalist decorating styles, this year’s favored designs prove that pattern can feel just as at home in pared-back spaces.
We consulted interior designers and textile experts to get their take on the patterns that are leading the way in interior design trends this year, whittling them down to our favorite top ten. While the likes of stripes and checks come as no surprise, 2025 offers some more unexpected ways to decorate with pattern, with reimagined florals, small-scale designs, and a focus on those inspired by nature.
1. Stripes

Interior designer Annie Downing of Annie Downing Interiors highlights decorating with stripes as a key pattern trend for 2025. ‘They’re forever classic but endlessly re-inventable,’ she says. ‘This year, I’m especially drawn to unexpected color pairings and bold scale vertical, horizontal, and even wavy variations. We love using stripes to bring structure to a space without making it feel too formal. On upholstered pieces, ceilings, or wallpapered walls, they create rhythm and movement, and they mix beautifully with florals or more organic motifs.’
In this breakfast nook, a classic ticking stripe adds interest to the neutral decor, showing that this is a pattern trend that works well in more refined interior tastes, as well as maximalist decor ideas. Jack Simpson, the founder and CEO at Nomad, says that the use of stripes here ‘brings a sense of relaxed informality to the space’.
‘It adds a gentle pattern without overwhelming the palette, and the vertical lines help elongate and soften the built-in seating. It’s timeless, tailored, and quietly joyful, exactly the mood we wanted for this corner,’ Jack continues.
2. Nature-Inspired Designs

‘In 2025, nature is at the very core of wallpaper design,’ comments Chloe Vince, senior decorating consultant at House of Hackney. ‘Whether it’s murals of idyllic landscapes or immersive blooms, more and more people are opting to invite nature into their homes. Not only are they timeless and beautiful, but they create a nurturing environment and a sense of escapism.’
This pattern trend is demonstrated with House of Hackney’s Plantasia design, as seen in this kitchen, which was reimagined for summer 2025. ‘The collection is grounded in earth tones but softer than what we saw throughout the world of interiors last year. The rich umber and terracotta tones have softened, and we’ve seen softer, duskier hues come to the forefront,’ Chloe says.
Nature-inspired patterns for 2025 are also observed by interior designer Autumn Pochiro of Autumn Dawn Design, who adds: ‘Woodland and botanical-themed patterns are my top choices this year, offering bold and adventurous design options. The myriad of color variations, especially when paired with a whimsical chandelier, can truly transform a space into a nature-inspired retreat.’
3. Art Nouveau

Next up, pattern trends for 2025 are set to look to the past for inspiration, with the likes of Art Nouveau inspiring designs. ‘We are seeing a real resurgence of the old classic designs,’ says Verity Coleman, creative director at Rascal & Roses. ‘A lot of the fabric suppliers are coloring some of their most popular designs, bringing them up to date, and this is allowing the original patterns to reach a whole new audience.’
‘There are the chintzes and florals as well as some of the brilliant Art Nouveau designs focused on nature, with fauna and flora at the focus,’ Verity continues. ‘It’s all about bold and colorful patterns which make an impact, but are hugely comforting in their familiarity. Our go-to classics are Sanderson’s Rose & Peony and GP & J Baker’s Nympheus for a timeless and quintessentially British design that feels as at home today as it did over 100 years ago.’

4. Florals Reimagined

Floral room decor reflects one of the most classic pattern trends, and for 2025, designers see florals reimagined with exciting colorways for a more unexpected look. ‘This year, we’re drawn to moody florals reimagined in unconventional colorways,’ say interior designers Mallory Robins and Elizabeth Bennett of Kobel + Co.
‘Think deep mossy greens, chartreuse highlights, and tea-stained browns – tones that lend a layered quality to classic floral motifs. These rich palettes transform what might traditionally feel sweet or nostalgic into something much more evocative and modern,’ the designers add.
In this transitional living room, George Spencer Designs’ floral fabric, Sahara Weave, Verdigris, was used on the sofa, adding interest to the room while remaining in keeping with the more modern decor.
‘Inspired by the lush flora and fauna along the banks of the Nile, it’s a bold yet refined tapestry woven from a cotton-linen blend,’ explains Tim Walters, the managing director at George Spencer Designs. ‘The intricate design looks beautiful in this neutral colorway, making it ideal for upholstery without dominating the space.’
‘I love pairing florals with plain fabrics to create a sense of harmony – think a floral sofa complemented by plain cushions. This contrast allows each fabric to stand out in its own right,’ says Tim.
5. Checks

Decorating with checks is another classic, timeless pattern, and for 2025, designers are championing it for its nostalgic look. ‘We’ve been using checks and stripes a lot,’ says Nicky Mudie, founder and director at Violet & George. ‘They bring a bit of structure without feeling too stiff or formal.’
‘They add energy and movement – they guide the eye, break up space, and just make things feel a bit more considered. Checks feel comforting – a bit nostalgic, but still super versatile. We’ve been using them in upholstery, on curtains, even on furniture – they layer so nicely with other patterns. Mixing different scales of stripes and checks keeps it interesting and stops things looking too matchy or traditional,’ Nicky adds.
6. Small-Scale Florals

Florals continue to serve as a pattern trend for 2025, but this time in small-scale designs. ‘I’m loving organic patterns that break from the traditional floral idea,’ says interior designer Caitlin Creer. ‘This can come in the form of vines or a more abstract small-scale floral, but I like the way a pattern like this can bring a room together. We typically use these to balance other elements in the room or bring some energy to a more streamlined space.’
Small-scale florals make a wonderful choice for bedrooms, much like Les Indiennes’ Little Flower Wallpaper, as seen on this bedcover. ‘Our Little Flower pattern has been one of my favorite prints to feature this year,’ says Mary Bergtold, the founder and owner of New York-based Les Indiennes. ‘This small botanical pattern works in many settings. Although simple, it can present itself as playful and timeless.’
7. Fern

‘Fern and botanical-inspired patterns are my go-to this year,’ shares Olivia Botrie, creative director at Dart Studio. ‘They feel timeless, natural, and bring just the right amount of visual texture without overwhelming a space. I love them in soft, tonal palettes – especially on wallpaper – because they add depth and interest while keeping the overall look calm and elevated.’
‘In this bedroom, we wrapped a delicate fern-print wallpaper right up from the walls onto the ceiling. It softens the sharp angles of the architecture and creates a cozy, cocoon-like vibe that’s perfect for a tucked-away retreat. It’s subtle, sophisticated, and shows how pattern can be used to enhance a room’s architecture, not fight it,’ adds Olivia.
8. Animal Prints

Animal prints are a great way to add drama to a room, and this once-popular trend is making a comeback for 2025. ‘Maximalism is making a strong return in 2025, and we are fully on board. Animal prints, in particular, bring a bold, collected energy to a space that always feels dynamic,’ says designer Lisa Shaffer, creative director at Lisa & Leroy.
Learning how to decorate with animal prints tastefully is a must when incorporating this bold pattern. Take inspiration from this bedroom and opt for a subtle addition of animal print, adding playfulness without going overboard.
9. Geometric

In 2025, the thoughtful use of geometric patterns is a stylish way to add interest to a room, much like the headboard seen in this blue bedroom.
‘Geometric patterns are another favorite,’ continues Lisa Shaffer. ‘They create a subtle tension that keeps a room feeling fresh. We often use them beyond textiles, incorporating them into tiled floors, decorative screens, and sculptural furniture.’
Interior designer Jessica Whitley of Jessica Whitley Studio adds that tile ideas are making a return this year, a go-to place to explore the geometric trend. ‘I’m seeing a return to patterned tiles for backsplashes and bathroom floors,’ says Jessica. ‘They allow for bold expression in small doses, which is perfect for homeowners who want something unique but not too trendy.’
10. Fauna

Lastly, consider opting for fauna prints when decorating with patterns this year. A great option for wallpaper ideas, fauna patterns add a whimsical feel to a room, and by taking this pattern liberally across all walls, it feels playful yet classic.
‘For the guest bedroom within our Highbury Crescent project, we selected the Menagerie of Extinct Animals wallpaper by Moooi x Arte for its ability to transform the space into something truly immersive,’ says Brian Woulfe, founder and director at Designed by Woulfe.
‘It’s a fantastic fauna print – rich in detail, texture, and narrative – evoking both a sense of elegance and discovery. We were drawn to the way it blends artistry with playful imagination, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The melange of exotic plants and animals brings colorful energy to the otherwise muted palette of the space, reflecting a growing trend in design toward bolder, more exciting choices,’ says Brian.
