2025 Volvo XC90 brings refreshed design, new tech, and more luxury
This 2025 Volvo XC90 arrives as a substantial update of the existing EX90, which debuted a decade ago. This new XC90 brings refreshed exterior and interior design, upgraded tech, and even more luxury.
The exterior of the 2025 Volvo XC90 remains instantly recognizable as the flagship member of the Volvo SUV family.
A new grille receives an interesting crosshatched grille pattern, not entirely dislike the ones found on some recent new BMWs like the new X3. This grille is now flanked by new headlights that reach into the top of the grille and still feature the brand’s iconic “Thor’s hammer” daytime running light signature. This daytime running light signature gets a bit of a refresh itself with the light pipes now running around the hammer shape forming a border. It’s subtle but interesting. The front also receives updated bumpers with new vents meant to make the updated XC90 appear a bit more squared-off (a classic Volvo styling trademark, after all).
The profile sees the least amount of changes with slightly updated detailing, while the rear sees mild changes with an updated lighting pattern for the vertical taillights. New wheel designs in sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches round out the exterior updates for the 2025 Volvo XC90.
Volvo has made a name for itself by crafting beautiful, Scandinavian-inspired interiors and the 2025 Volvo XC90 carries on that tradition. Just like the exterior, the interior is a heavy update of the existing design rather than an all-new one.
Front and center, we find a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display replacing the much smaller 9.0-inch display from the previous version. This display looks virtually identical to the one used in the new Volvo EX30 EV. This new display now sits in a position sticking out from the dash to accommodate its larger size. This new screen is also sharper and has a higher pixel density than the old screen. This new infotainment screen also runs on a new Google-based software system, again very much like that found in the new EX30, with access to apps and other controls more easily accessible from the home screen.
Flanking this new screen are redesigned air vents, and buyers will also find more storage space in the center console and an additional cup holder. The dash features new design details like stitched fabric, open-pore wood trim, and new metallic speaker grilles to further freshen it up. Volvo has also added extra noise suppression to the new XC90 for an even quieter cabin, and yes, an Orrefor crystal shifter is still available.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 will continue to offer an adaptive air suspension that can monitor the road up to 500 times per second and adjust for the best possible ride. This trick suspension can also raise the vehicle as much as 1.57 inches and lower it by up to 0.8 inches.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 arrives with three powertrain options. Buyers able to choose between B5 and B6 hybrids that both feature a 48-volt electric motor paired with a 2.0-lt turbo four-cylinder making 247 hp in the B5 version and 296 hp in the B6. A range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid version can travel 33 miles on electric power alone and generates 455 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque. All three powertrain options will feature AWD and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 can be ordered today, with deliveries set to begin by the first quarter of 2025. Pricing will start at $59,745, with more detailed pricing and trim level information arriving closer to its on-sale date.
